Red Fire Farm
Red Fire Farm began on a 50-acre piece of land located in Granby, MA. In 2001, Ryan Voiland purchased the property from the Hatch/Lyman family. As part of this sale the Commonwealth of Massachusetts purchased the development rights for the farmland, assuring that the property would forever be used as farmland.
In 2009, shortly after meeting his now wife Sarah Voiland, Ryan purchased a second farmstead in Montague, MA from the Tuvek family, expanding Red Fire Farm operations by 110 acres. This new farmland is in the heart of the Montague Medows, an area known for its rich alluvial soils that were deposited by the glacial melt flooding of the nearby Connecticut and Sawmill rivers.
Today, the two properties allow more effective soil building and crop rotation than could be achieved on either piece individually. Ryan and Sarah have learned many things along the way and have been able to grow acres of produce providing a significant source of local food for their region.

"Butterfly Bakery gives us a market we don’t have to invent or manage every single day. If I get a flat tire, I’m not missing my one chance to sell that week. Our days are more predictable and our mission is clearer. We can focus on growing 15 crops really well instead of juggling 30 just to stay competitive at the farmers’ market. I can focus on farming instead of marketing."

“We cannot overstate how beneficial and influential it has been working with Butterfly Bakery and just how impactful our relationship has been on the progress of our farm, getting us on track to grow peppers and seeing it as a viable commercial crop.”
