Small Farm Collaborators
Dog River Farm
Operated by George Cross, his wife Julie O’Keefe and a great staff of local folks, Dog River Farm is a small diversified organic farm in Berlin Vermont located in a river valley just south of Vermont’s capital, where the rich river valley soil is perfect for growing beautiful vegetables.
George started farming in Johnson, Vermont in 1993 and cofounded Deep Root Organic Co-op with friend and business partner Tony Lehouillier. After a stint as a high school biology teacher in New Jersey (he would come up on weekends to work his fields), George purchased Dog River Farm in 2001 and moved back to Vermont to farm full time three years later.
Today, George, Julie and their two children live in a farmhouse on a hill overlooking their river's edge vegetable fields and busy farm stand. Dog River Farm continues to operate with the clear mission of providing great local produce to the people of central Vermont and the far reaches of New England.

Cilantro Onion Hot Sauce
Some sauces are for special occasions. This is not one of them.
This is the bottle that becomes part of your daily routine. Eggs in the morning, tacos at lunch, leftovers at midnight.
We start with green jalapeños and blend them with onions, fresh cilantro, and vinegar to make a bright, herby green hot sauce with just the right amount of heat. It’s fresh, savory, and balanced enough that it doesn’t take over the food. It just makes everything taste a little better.
If you love the flavor of cilantro and jalapeños together, this one will feel instantly familiar.
Put it on tacos, burritos, grilled chicken, rice bowls, roasted vegetables, eggs, or anything that could use a little green sauce moment. Just don’t expect the bottle to stay full for long.
Heat: 🔥🔥🔥 (3/6)
Ingredients: Green jalapeños*, white vinegar, onions*, cilantro*, salt. * All produce is grown on a small farm within 200 miles of our Vermont kitchen

"Butterfly Bakery gives us a market we don’t have to invent or manage every single day. If I get a flat tire, I’m not missing my one chance to sell that week. Our days are more predictable and our mission is clearer. We can focus on growing 15 crops really well instead of juggling 30 just to stay competitive at the farmers’ market. I can focus on farming instead of marketing."

“We cannot overstate how beneficial and influential it has been working with Butterfly Bakery and just how impactful our relationship has been on the progress of our farm, getting us on track to grow peppers and seeing it as a viable commercial crop.”
