We're back on Hot Ones!

We're back on Hot Ones!

Hey Friends,

I am so excited to be able to finally tell y'all that we're back on Hot Ones! We developed our 4th Hot Ones hot sauce to be a beautiful balance between smoke, roasted sweetness and a soul crushing heat. Smoked Serrano Squash Reaper X is clocking in at the #9 slot for Season 29 and it's a doozy.

Watch our introduction to the lineup here:

On the nose this sauce smells killer, but on the palate it starts out smokey, smooth and just a little sweet. After a short reprieve the reaper pepper kicks in and the intensity builds. You feel like you have the heat just under control when the Pepper X strolls in late to the party, grabs your taste buds and holds on for dear life. Pepper X is a late heat, but as soon as it grabs on, it takes a long time to let go.

The inspiration for this sauce came from our ever-popular Maple Wood Smoked Onion and our fan-favorite Guster Hot Sauce, Ooh La La. We maple wood smoked red Serrano peppers for a balanced smoke, roasted off Vermont butternut squash for a silky sweetness and then blended in smoked onion juice and field ripened tomatoes for a rich umami. Many folks think that we put tomatoes in our Maple Wood Smoked Onion Hot Sauce because of the umami in our smoked onions, so this time we called the bluff and did it! The result is a flavor first sauce that seems unassuming up front, but builds first in reaper intensity and then sticks hard with the unmistakable heat of Pepper X from Smokin' Ed.

We can't sell this sauce directly until May (after the run of the season), but you can pick it up at Heatonist.com or explore our other Hot Ones (or non-Hot Ones) sauces at ButterflyBakeryVT.com!
