The pepper plants are heavy with fruit, our freezer is filling up fast and Pepper Patrons is closing on October 15.
Pepper Patrons have supported our crop of peppers from local farms and become a part of our story. Now it is time for them to reap the bounty with us! It is almost time to make the exclusive sauce and I am so excited for this sauce to exist.
Earlier this year, Patrick and Jamie at Wetfoot Farm reached out to me about their pawpaw trees.
Pawpaw is North America’s largest native fruit, but cut one open and it tastes like it came from somewhere with more brightly colored birds and less snow. Soft yellow flesh, big dark seeds and flavors of mango, banana and grapefruit.
And it’s growing in Vermont.
I’ve never made anything with pawpaw before (I only just met the trees a few weeks ago!). So when Patrick and Jamie told me they had fruit, I immediately started dreaming about the hot sauce possibilities.
For the 2026 Pepper Patron Hot Sauce we are going to pair their pawpaws with the MUCH loved Dutchess Mystery Peppers. And maybe something else. Or maybe not. I have ideas, but I want to taste the pawpaws and peppers together before I decide what else they need. I get to figure that part out when they hit the kitchen.
And Pepper Patrons get the result.
