Caramel Isn't Just For Dessert

Caramel Isn't Just For Dessert

I get it

Hey Friends,

Caramel tends to get filed under dessert, and I get it. Ice cream, brownies, spoons straight from the jar. All very valid.

But goat’s milk caramel really shines when it crosses over into savory territory.

One of our favorite winter pairings is blue cheese and caramel. A small spoonful of caramel drizzled over a wedge of blue cheese or a smear on a cracker does something magical. The caramel’s deep, slightly tangy sweetness softens the sharpness of the cheese, and both flavors become rounder and richer.

It’s just as good on a cheese board as it is as a snack at the counter while dinner’s in the oven.

If blue cheese isn’t your thing, caramel also plays well with:

  • Roasted winter squash or sweet potatoes (Salted Bourbon)
  • Toasted bread with butter and a pinch of flaky salt (Vanilla Bean)
  • Warm grains like farro or barley with roasted vegetables (Original)

This is one of the reasons we love goat’s milk caramel. It isn’t overly sweet, so it doesn’t overpower. It complements.

If you’ve got a jar in the fridge, consider pulling it out for dinner instead of dessert tonight. And if you don’t, well… now you’ve got a very good reason.
