Above: Our On The Ocean booth
Hey Friends,
I’m writing this newsletter from Guster’s On The Ocean Fest, the annual gathering of Guster fans from around the country for my favorite kind of music and people.
I became a Guster fan when I saw them opening for Barenaked Ladies in 2000, and then more so when my now-husband and I bonded over our love of the band. And then even more so when Guster’s lead singer and I bonded over our love of all things weird and wonderful.
I’ve been owning and running BBVT for my entire grown-up life, and just about half of my entire life, so it’s always been critical to me to be able to have fun and do the things that I love. The music that I love, the collaborations with other brands that I love, and the ingredients that bring me joy.
I get to geek out over the perfect onion and laugh with the 14-year-old Guster fan who decided that he was going to try BOTH Taco Vibes Only and Smoked Serrano Squash Reaper X (he survived, but it was a perilous journey). I get to obsess over making better sauces with my staff and over jalapeño varieties with the farmers who grow them.
We’ve been vending at OTO for four or five years now, and I love seeing the relationship that the “GusFam” has built with what I’ve created. So many folks already have Gustard and Ooh La La in their fridge, and they’re coming back to stock up on favorites they discovered here in prior years.
Maple Wood Smoked Onion is a perennial favorite. Hard Cider Smoked Onion Mustard and Taco Vibes Only have been selling like hotcakes. And 2 oz jars of Vanilla Bean Caramel have been the go-to for the airplane-bound.
OTO Booth Favorites
I’m lucky enough to have my kids and family helping me run the booth this year (we’re all Guster fans!), but Guster is going to be coming back on stage soon, so I’ve got to go get my dancing shoes on.
