Flavor Commitment since 2003

Rooted in Vermont

Butterfly Bakery of Vermont began as a small local bakery founded by Claire Georges, who simply wanted to make good food from good ingredients. What started as a few batches of cookies and granola sold at local stores quickly grew into a community favorite known for maple-sweetened baked goods and honest Vermont flavor. Every spoonful, bar, and bite was made with the same care you’d find in a home kitchen, just with a few more mixing bowls.

From Sweet to Spicy

Everything changed thanks to a little farmers market bartering. At the end of each market, Claire would trade her unsold baked goods with local farmers who often had
extra chili peppers. She started experimenting in her kitchen, turning those peppers into small batches of hot sauce to bring to the next market, and they sold out every time. What began as a bit of farmers market fun quickly became the heart of the business, driven by curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that hot sauce should always be about flavor and connection first and heat second.

A Sweet Partnership

Over time, Butterfly Bakery grew from a bakery into a full-fledged Vermont food company that celebrates small farms and big flavors. In 2022, the beloved Fat Toad Farm Caramel became part of the Butterfly Bakery family, bringing its rich goat’s milk caramel recipes into the same Vermont-made lineup. Together under one brand, we continue to champion small-farm ingredients, sustainable sourcing, and the joy of making things by hand.

Vermont Flavor on the National Stage

Today, Butterfly Bakery of Vermont is known nationwide for its bold, maple-sweetened flavors and locally grown hot sauces that have appeared on Hot Ones, earned praise from Food & Wine, and won awards around the world. At its core, BBVT is still the same: a small Vermont company dedicated to making honest food that connects people to the place it comes from and the community that makes it possible.

December Hot Sauce Micro Batches

  • Mustard Cranberry Hot Sauce

This last summer was a fantastic year for superhot peppers, and the ghosts certainly show it! Hauntingly spicy, but with deep savory sensations from the mustard and cranberries. This sauce works well with hearty German foods, from snappy sausages to roasted potatoes to rye bread.

  • Maple Garlic Ginger Hot Sauce

Our first reaction upon tasting was not words but sounds. We are so in love with fresh baby ginger! Rounding out this sauce with scapes and maple syrup make this a go-anywhere sauce. We particularly enjoy it in a stir fry, with Havarti cheese, steamed greens, and dare we say sushi?

  • Carmen Habanada Pepper Sauce

All flavor, zero heat! This not-hot hot sauce is made with habanada peppers, which have all the flavor of a tropical burn-your-face-off pepper, but none of the heat. So you feel like you’re going to get kicked in the face, but then... you don’t! Kind of like if Lucy actually left the ball there for Charlie.

    Heat: none
